Communicating Geoscience to the Public: Promises and Pitfalls | Geology , it often seems, lies out of sight and out of mind. Yet, geoscientists are increasingly being encouraged to communicate more publicly what they do and what they know. So how can we do that when, for most people, geology is about 'stones' and stones are 'boring'? It is a difficulty compounded by the fact that many of our most acute geo-issues are rooted in the unfamiliar realm of the deep subsurface. This symposium aims to bring together a diverse set of practitioners involved in popularising geoscience for non-technical mainstream audiences, to explore ways in which geoscientists can better connect with the public and thereby forge more effective strategies for meaningful societal engagement. | Iain Stewart |
