Integrated geohydrological approach to secure ground water resources

Groundwater is a nation’s principal reserve of fresh water and is a key factor for sustaining all forms of life, health, agriculture, industry, production and economic development. While availability and quantity of groundwater largely depends upon the geographic location, topography, lithology and disposition of the structural elements, the quality of the groundwater is controlled by the chemical composition of the aquifer and the water media, rock-water interaction, residence time etc. Rapid degradation in groundwater quality and quantity due to recent climate shift, rapid urbanization and industrialization, natural hazards warrants the need to understand the complex spatio-temporal dispositions of shallow & deeper groundwater, identify and quantify trends/variations in groundwater quality and quantity, monitor the known groundwater resources, delineate potential recharge zones in the water deficit terrains and further deep aquifers, etc. The symposia invites scientific contributions across the disciplines of geology, geophysics, geochemistry to bring out multiparametric, integrated geohydrological approach viz., hydrostratigraphy, geomorphology, tectonics and structure, flow dynamics, groundwater age, floods, hydrochemistry, surface and groundwater interaction, etc and the recent advancements in their respective fields to provide a blue print for public health departments/medical organisations/groundwater body related agencies & organisations to develop alternative mitigation plans.
