| IGCP 632 Continental Crises of the Jurassic: Major extinction events and environmental changes | The International GeoScience Program is one of UNESCOs scientific programs also supported by IUGS IGCP 632, specifically focuses on the global aspect of Jurassic climate, biota and the correlation between terrestrial and marine ecosystems. The project aims to provide new insights into the timing and causes of major perturbations in the evolution of life on Earth, covering the entire period from the Jurassic-Triassic mass extinction event to the development of Early Cretaceous Lake systems. Besides improved stratigraphic correlations, climate data and global palaeoenvironmental interpretations for the Jurassic, this project should provide new data and clarify the causal mechanism behind two major events in Earth’s history: the Triassic-Jurassic mass extinction event and the Toarcian anoxic event, with implications for climatology, ecology and biodiversity. We invite speakers to present their results on any aspect of palaeontology, sedimentology or geochemistry within IGCP 632 and together contribute an interesting session. | Vivi Vajda, Jingeng Sha and Emma Msaky |
