IGCP 630: Permian and Triassic integrated Stratigraphy and Climatic, Environmental and Biotic Extremes

The geology of much of southern Laurasia and environs was generated by the evolution of proto-, paleo-, and neo-Tethys, as fragments of Gondwana rifted away and migrated north to accrete to Asia. These collisions generated the Alpine System, Turkish-Iranian Plateau, Himalayan Belt, and associated orogens in Asia. As the collision between Gondwana and Laurasia continues to this day, remnants of Tethys are still being subducted in the Mediterranean, Gulf of Oman, and elsewhere, and the neotectonics of SE Asia are dominated by effects of this complex collision. We invite contributions on all aspects of the stratigraphic, palaeontological, paleogeographic, and tectonic development during Tethys birth to demise, as well as contributions on how the active tectonics affects society.
