Geodiversity underpins biodiversity
|
Geodiversity in its full suite of expression of geology as landforms, soils, hydrology, geochemistry, and hydrochemistry is fundamental to maintaining biological systems. As such, geodiversity underpins biodiversity. This important factor is not adequately addressed in Parks management, Conservation Reserves, and ecosystem management, and the objective of this symposium is to highlight the connection in theoretical treatment, and with well documented global examples to bring this aspect of geology and its connection to biology to an international arena.
