Geodynamics and metallogenesis of the West African Craton
|
The West African Craton (WAC) is host to world class deposits of diamonds, bauxite, manganese, gold, PGEs, uranium and iron ore. In a context of recent renewal in exploration of the WAC and its margin, new geological and geophysical data allows us to take a fresh look at this ancient terrain. The formation of ore bodies is intimately linked with several deep-seated and surface geologic processes: deformation, metamorphism, magmatism, fluid circulation, alteration, erosion and deposition. Characterization of major Eburnean structures is crucial for better understanding of the processes that led to the mineral endowment of the WAC. This session will focus on the outcrop-to-craton-scale evidence for the formation and evolution of the WAC during the Palaeoproterozoic. We welcome contributions on geodynamics and ore-deposit genesis in the WAC, and the links between them.
