HP-UHP metamorphism and tectonic evolution of orogenic belts

Studies of high pressure (HP) and ultrahigh pressure (UHP) metamorphic rocks during last 30 years have played a key role in our understanding of orogenic belts. These metamorphic rocks have experienced complex changes during subduction and exhumation processes as e.g., recrystallization, deformation, element redistribution, fluid-rock interactions and even partial melting. Oceanic and continental lithosphere involved received their major overprint during deep subduction and exhumation which commonly trigger large-scale orogenic processes like geochemical recycling, orogenic magmatism, continent extension, formation of high mountains/plateaus, and continent/oceanic lithosphere amalgamation. Despite great progress related to HP-UHP metamorphism in the past decades, recent studies still bring us unexpected and exciting results. The aim of this session is to present current work on HP-UHP metamorphism and its relation to the tectonic evolution of orogenic belts. We invite contributions ranging from modern petrology, geochemistry, geochronology and tectonic evolution of orogenic belt that expand our better understanding of HP-UHP metamorphism and geodynamic process.
