Deep Imaging of the Crust and Lithosphere beneath the Continent and its geodynamics |
Geophysical imaging of the continental lithosphere from the surface to its boundary with the asthenosphere continues to provide new insights into the geodynamic processes that are key to understanding its origin, modification and ultimate destruction. Active and passive seismic, magnetelluric and gravity observations have greatly refined our concepts of continental accretion and attendant crustal deformation, lithospheric delamination and relamination, and the role of reactivation in continental tectonics. This session is intended to bring together the diverse range of geophysical observations and geodynamic models that represent our current state of understanding of the evolution of the continental lithosphere. |
