Title Description Convenors
AGID Sub Theme : 3: Geo Parks, Geo Heritage & Geo Tourism: Role of Women Geoscientists Geo-tourism, Geo heritage and Geo-parks provide gateways to cultural appreciation, environmental awareness and economic support in rural areas. At present, geo-tourism is a new movement helping travelers to increase their knowledge about natural resources, the cultural identities of host communities, and ways of preserving them. Geo-tourism is still at an early stage of commercial development in most of the low-income countries and needs promotion through Government departments, NGOs and international conferences such as the IGC. The establishment of the European Geo-parks Network and the Global Geo-parks Network are positive steps toward the preservation and presentation of geo-heritage or Geo-sites as a new tourist attraction. Geo-parks and Geo-tourism provides an opportunity for students, professionals, and authorities of geo-parks to take advantage of emerging techniques to create new products, facilities, services, technologies, and management practices for geo-parks in the future. For the rural community they provide an opportunity of economic uplift by providing services to the tourists and working as tourist guides. Papers submitted for this session would contribute to the creation of innovative strategies for sustainability and conservation of Geo-heritage in rural areas around the world. With an orientation towards artistic preservation, aesthetic creations and promoting tourism, women geoscientists would particularly make valuable contributions to the theme of the session.
