African Geochronology | Large tracts of the African continent are underlain by a polyorogenic basement that is Precambrian in age and cannot be dated by biostratigraphic methods. Understanding the processes that gave rise to the formation of these rocks, and the assembly of numerous terranes to form the continental land-mass of Africa, relies essentially on the availability of accurate geochronological data obtainied by radiometric age dating. Such data is increasingingly available from, for example, U-Pb zircon dating - this symposium invites contributions to the study of the evolution of the African continent through geochronology, in all its forms and whatever the age. | Dirk Frei |
