As this is the Second draft, please note that where there are abstract presenters not yet registered, these have now been removed from the programme.

Basin Formation and Continental Margins
It has been nearly 40 years since the IUCG conference on “Sedimentary basins of the continental margin and craton” was held in Durham, UK. This conference was instrumental in highlighting the significance of the stratigraphic record in basins for addressing fundamental scientific questions such as long-term sea-level, climate and environmental change and the origin of vertical motions of Earth’s crust and upper mantle.
Much progress has been made since the conference in understanding rift, strike-slip and foreland type basins. Questions nevertheless remain concerning their origin and evolution. For example; are extensional rift-type basins single-stage uniform or multi-stage depth-dependent extensional features? Do compressional foreland-type basins point to the role of plate processes or is it mantle dynamics that controls the erosional history of thrust and fold belts and the stratigraphic evolution of their flanking basin fill? Cratonic basins are characterized by a long record of subsidence and evidence of both extensional and compressional tectonics, and yet are difficult to explain in terms of current observations and models.
Symposia within this theme will focus on the sedimentological, stratigraphic and tectonic evolution of sedimentary basins, including the world’s continental interiors and their margins. New observations and models related to the evolution of sedimentary basins in Africa and its margins are particularly encouraged.
Please note that this is preliminary and final allocations in the programme will be announced in the 5th Announcement and updated on the Website in July.
PLEASE NOTE THAT ALL PRESENTING AUTHORS (FOR ORALS) OR AT LEAST ONE AUTHOR (FOR POSTERS) MUST BE REGISTERED FOR THE MEETING BY 31 MAY 2016 IN ORDER TO HAVE THE ABSTRACT INCLUDED IN THE PROGRAMME.
